Health Forward awards $252,528 in applicant defined grants

Kansas City, MO — Health Forward Foundation has awarded eight nonprofit organizations a total of $252,528 in applicant defined grants during October 2020.

Della Lamb Community Services$35,000To partner with the UMKC Institute for Human Development to explore the relationship between digital equity and health outcomes among refugee and immigrant populations in Kansas City.
Don Bosco Community Center$10,000To distribute fresh fruits and vegetables throughout northeast Kansas City to older adults experiencing food insecurity, adults with disabilities, and low-income households.
Donnelly College$47,528To provide health education, wellness activities, and clinical mental health services to help students improve understanding of mental health and wellness; resolve crises; and improve functioning.
Genesis School$20,000To support health care access that promotes wellness and safety for students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rosedale Development Association$35,000To support core operations that meet the Rosedale community’s emerging physical and socioeconomic health needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Village Initiative$40,000To provide core operating support and sustain wrap-around re-entry services for returning citizens and their families in Wyandotte Co.
Unified School District 258-Humboldt$40,000To support a school nurse position that will manage health screenings, lifestyle counseling, early intervention, chronic condition support, medical home referral, and health education.

Health Forward reviewed 20 proposals totaling $889,302 for this funding round.

Applicant defined grants are reviewed and awarded monthly. These grants allow organizations to define their own immediate grant needs in relation to Health Forward’s mission, target population, and service area.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Health Forward has changed its applicant defined grant process to support current and future health and economic needs created by COVID-19.
