Our new home: Behind the scenes at the Offices at Overlook

“If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together.”

That African proverb has shaped how we think about this project from day one, guiding how we chose partners whose purpose mirrors our own – many of them local, woman-owned, and BIPOC-owned businesses. Who builds our space matters just as much as what we build.

We’re excited to share our new home with you and introduce you to a few of our partners. Stay tuned for more updates this fall, including more features on our partners at the Offices at Overlook.

Offices at Overlook

Our new space, on the East Side of Kansas City, Missouri, has been years in the making. At the end of September, our team will officially move into the third floor of the Class A commercial building at 2801 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd – a building Health Forward owns in its entirety as a lasting investment in the community we serve.

The first and second floors continue their build out, with full occupancy expected in 2027.

We want to take you behind the scenes of our build, introducing the visionaries and doers who brought this project to life and showing you why this building is so much more than four walls.

Partnerships rooted in purpose

In this introduction to our new space, President and CEO Qiana Thomason toured our new space with LaTasha McCall, owner of LM2 Construction, the Black woman-owned firm that helped bring this vision to life. Partnering with LM2 wasn’t incidental — it’s a reflection of who we are. Racial equity and economic inclusion aren’t just what we fund; they’re how we build.

Qiana also spoke with Carol Sokolenko, Chief Executive Officer at Fre3dom Interiors, about the building’s interior design. Fre3dom, a Latina-owned business, has been an instrumental partner in creating a space that feels open, inviting, and equitable – one that reflects our purpose and who we are.

Moving forward, together

This building is more than a new address — it’s a reflection of the values that drive everything we do. From the ground up, we chose partners who share our commitment to equity, community, and inclusion.
