Health Forward awards $252,900 in applicant defined grants

Kansas City, MO — Health Forward Foundation has awarded seven nonprofit organizations a total of $252,900 in applicant defined grants during May 2020.

Black Health Care Coalition$50,000To assist African American residents in Kansas City, Missouri, who are experiencing poverty by ensuring management of chronic illness, increasing awareness of COVID-19 risk, and connecting with the medical delivery system.
Community LINC $50,000To expand existing programming in response to COVID-19 and provide more than 500 people with a safe and stable living environment.
HappyBottoms$19,200To continue safe, uninterrupted diaper distribution services and expand services to local families impacted by COVID-19.
Kansas City Kansas Community College Foundation$20,000To support a medical learning experience for KCK Public Schools high school students interested in pursuing a career in the health sciences field. Students will also work on projects related to COVID-19 to assist local efforts in Wyandotte County.
Metro Lutheran Ministry$25,000To reduce adverse health outcomes among homeless and low-income populations by providing financial assistance for their emergent needs in times of crisis, prioritizing assistance to those impacted most heavily by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Migrant Farmworkers Assistance Fund$50,000To provide health care case management, COVID-19 screening, provider testing, and food and medication deliveries to migrant and seasonal farmworkers who are uninsured and underserved in rural Lafayette County.
Phoenix Family$38,700To help low-income families and older adults in Greater Kansas City receive supportive housing services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health Forward reviewed 15 proposals totaling $687,710 for this funding round.

Applicant defined grants are reviewed and awarded monthly. These grants allow organizations to define their own immediate grant needs in relation to Health Forward’s mission, target population, and service area.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Health Forward has changed its applicant defined grant process to support current and future health and economic needs created by COVID-19.
