Last year when Dr. Karl Grant joined the Live Well Health Center in Buckner, we knew he would be a good fit for our fabulous rural community. He interviewed in cowboy boots and came from fixing fence and working cattle. It was an immediate partnership for Live Well and the Health Care Collaborative of Rural Missouri.
Dr. Grant, who sees patients from birth to death, is responsible for medical director responsibilities for Live Well and has co-led a team of health center employees to meet — and exceed — national quality awards.
He is a great advocate for the needs of the community, including the 340B discount drug program, recruiting substance abuse services for the patients and building capacity in the rural community of Buckner for additional services, specifically the recruitment of a pharmacy.
Rural health care is difficult. Many times our patients come in to the health center with multiple issues. Dr. Grant never shies away from a tough case. He continually goes the extra mile, ensuring that the patient receives the care and management they need in their local community. As a huge advocate for veterans service, Dr. Grant works daily to make sure veterans are able to get the care they deserve in a calm setting, as opposed to driving over 50 miles into Kansas City as many have a challenge with transportation.
HCC is extremely grateful for the funding received by the Health Care Foundation for the support to Live Well in Buckner. We are honored to have a compassionate physician who understands rural communities.
As for HCC, the 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization implements and supports regional programs that help create access to health education, awareness, prevention and treatment services. The HCC also owns and operates all four Live Well Clinics. These federally qualified health centers are full-service health clinics that accept all insurances including Medicaid and Medicare, as well as a sliding-fee scale, income-based fee structure for the uninsured.
