We live in a strange world. Civil discourse used to be the norm. This is no longer the case. In the Kansas City region we are lucky to have several mayors who are able to look past partisanship and focus on results and collaborations. Two of those mayors are Mayor Sly James from KCMO and Mayor Joe Reardon from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/KCK.
On August 9th from 4- 6 pm these two outstanding civic leaders will talk about civil discourse and how to get rid of the bitterness, personal attacks and partisanship. The talk will be held at the Rockhurst University Convocation Center located off 54th Street and Troost. This discussion should be required attendance for all area elected officials and community leaders. These mayors will discuss how important civility, regionalism and collaborations are for the common good of the entire region. Please RSVP at: community.rockhurst@edu/mayors
I salute our area mayors. It is refreshing to be inspired by elected officials rather than be embarrassed by their unethical actions and personal attacks against one another. When I was young I admired and looked up to federal elected officials in Washington. Now I am inspired by local mayors who are getting the job done by working together to improve our region. I am convinced that Google would have never selected our community without this kind of leadership at the top. Next time you see Mayor James or Mayor Reardon…thank them for their leadership and thank them for setting an example for the rest of us to follow.
